Material: 8620H | Process: Carburizing & Quenching
Planetary gearboxes demand precision at every level — and the brake shaft is no exception.
This shaft is manufactured from 8620H steel using a carburizing and quenching process, delivering the high surface hardness and wear resistance required for demanding gearbox applications.
The real challenge? Distortion control on the internal spline — including rectangular spline profiles — after heat treatment. Carburizing and quenching introduces thermal stress that can throw spline geometry out of tolerance. Controlling that distortion, consistently, requires deep process knowledge and careful fixture design. That's where most suppliers struggle. We don't.
